The board of the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council meets on Tuesday, June 4, at 7:00pm at Eagle Rock City Hall, 2035 Colorado Boulevard in Eagle Rock. All Eaglerockers are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Meeting notices and the proposed agenda are posted 72 hours in advance at City Hall and several other sites around Eagle Rock. (The agenda will be linked here, as soon as it’s available.)

The public may make general comments at the beginning of each meeting, and speak on individual agenda items as they are discussed, by filling out a speaker card at the beginning of the meeting. Generally, public comments are limited to 2 minutes each. See the agenda for details.

If you want to suggest an agenda item for next month’s meeting, please email the current Secretary (Michael Blanchard) at least 2 days before the Executive Committee meeting, where we set the agenda. (You can also contact your sub-district director, and he or she will get it to the right person.)

If you’re seeking funding for your local non-profit organization or project, please submit this DONE Funding Application Form. Once it’s submitted and found to be complete, we’ll set your funding request on the agenda for the next board meeting.

(The ERNC board usually meets on the first Tuesday of the month, but sometimes holidays and such get in the way. If you’re planning on going to a meeting, please confirm details for the date in the calendar section.)

ERNC Executive Committee Meets April 30 – Change of Time and Location

The ERNC Executive Committee will meet on our usual last Tuesday of the month, April 30.

To avoid conflicts with the Vons Community Meeting and make it easier for anyone who wishes to attend both, we are changing the time and location of this month’s meeting to 8pm at Colorado Wine Company.

Please always double check our calendar as sometimes meeting times and places change due holidays or special events.

All meetings of the ERNC and its committees are open to the public, and all Eagle Rock stakeholders are welcome to attend.

Hello Neighbor!

Next ERNC Meeting is Tuesday, April 2 at 7:00pm

“You can’t win if you don’t play.” We’ve all heard the expression, usually in the context of lottery tickets or high-stakes Old Maid. But in Los Angeles, it’s also true of local government. If you don’t show up and take part in the process, someone else will be making decisions for you. So come on down to the next Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council Board Meeting to hear — and be heard on — decisions that will effect your future.

ERNC meetings are held at Eagle Rock City Hall, 2035 Colorado Boulevard. We have another solid agenda this month, with issues that will effect all Eagle Rockers. The agenda, and all supporting documents for the meeting, are available at this link. (More documents will be added to the packet as we get closer to the meeting.)

Among the topics to be discussed and/or voted on are:

- Funding for a beautification project for the Eagle Rock Library.
- Funding for the Peace in the Northeast walk.
- A letter to the City of Los Angeles about Neighborhood Council funding and the Mayor’s budget.
- A letter to the DOT about bike lanes in Eagle Rock (see below).

All meetings of the ERNC are open to the public. We want to hear from you, so please attend and participate!

Colorado Blvd. Bike Lane Meeting is Tomorrow Night – March 27

If You Care About Colorado – Go!

The City of Los Angeles has offered several chances for Eagle Rockers to learn about the possibility of bike lanes on Colorado Boulevard, and what they might mean for traffic speeds, pedestrian and bicyclist safety, health, and commerce. With the help of CD-14, TERA, Take Back the Boulevard, the Chamber of Commerce, and the ERNC, they’re doing it again — this Wednesday, March 27, at 7pm at Occidental College. (See flyer for details.)

This is a great chance to get all of your burning bike lane questions answered, like: Will bike lanes slow down traffic on Colorado, or speed it up? Can I still challenge a bicyclist to a drag race at the Eagle Vista light? Will the CO2 exhaled by bicyclists be better or worse for the environment than car exhaust? Will bike lanes lead to an infestation of children in our neighborhoods? What about bearded hipsters and all their disposable income — is that something we really want in our town?

Note that this meeting is specifically about bike lanes on Colorado Blvd. in Eagle Rock. If you have a concern about Figueroa or some other street, feel free to bring your questions, concerns, and axes to grind — but keep in mind that this meeting is intended to be Colorado-centric.

ERNC Bike Lane Vote April 2

We’re Serious This Time, Seriously.

Last month, the ERNC heard a presentation from DOT engineers about proposed bike lanes on Colorado. But we didn’t take a vote on whether to support the project or not, mainly because the DOT and CD-14 were holding their big Colorado Bike Lane meeting on March 27, and we wanted more public input.

We’ll be at the March 27 meeting, and we’ll listen to both the speakers and to the audience. On April 2, the ERNC will vote on whether to send a letter to DOT about the bike lanes, and what the content of that letter will be. The ERNC has no power to decide whether there will actually be bike lanes on Colorado, but the City listens to Neighborhood Councils on issues like this. If we want bike lanes, then our letter could bump Colorado up the list of projects so we can get them ASAP; and if we decide against them, then we can delay the project until DOT gets it right.

They Want to Build What, Where?

Land Use Updates from the ERNC

Vons construction: Because the Vons project is “by right” (meaning they don’t have to tell us exactly what they’re doing), CD-14 has asked a representative from Vons to meet with the ERNC. We’ll keep trying to get more information on the project, and will update you when we learn more.

5370 & 5382 North Mount Royal Drive: The potential developer of this 1.59 acre property at the top of Mt. Royal Drive wants to subdivide it into 8 individual lots, creating a gated community of 2,500 – 3,200 square foot homes on a private street. They also want exceptions to the Baseline Hillside Ordinance, regarding front and side yard sizes, number and size of retaining walls, and floor square footage. We’ll keep you posted about opportunities for public input, as the process continues.

1353 Colorado Blvd.: The old Boston Transmission shop at the corner of Eagle Vista was sold to a developer who plans to convert it into a mini-mall, by applying for an exception to the Colorado Boulevard Specific Plan. We’ll let you know when the Planning Department receives the application.

Massage Parlor Story Airs on TV

At the January meeting of the ERNC, a packed house watched as TV news crews filmed an informative and sometimes contentious discussion of the massage parlors sprouting like weeds on the streets of Our Fair City, with LAPD vice squad officers describing their plans to curb the world’s oldest profession in Eagle Rock.

That story is now a report on KCET’s SoCal Connected, which originally aired last night; the full report can now be watched online anytime at this link.

Executive Committee meets March 20

The ERNC Executive Committee will meet on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Coffee Table to review all agenda item requests for the ERNC General Board Meeting on Tuesday, April 2.

The Executive Committee usually meets on the last Tuesday of the month, but this month’s meeting has been rescheduled to avoid the Easter/Passover holiday. Always double check our calendar as sometimes meeting times and places change due holidays or special events.

All meetings of the ERNC and its committees are open to the public, and all Eagle Rock stakeholders are welcome to attend.
